Appendix B: Installing J2ME Wireless Toolkit

1. You must have Java SDK (JDK) version 1.4.2 or higher installed. If you don’t have it already, go to http://java.sun.com/j2se/downloads.html and download proper JDK version. For help, refer Appendix A.
2. Download the installer for J2ME wireless toolkit from http://java.sun.com/products/sjwtoolkit/download.html. The link for linux or solaris installation is there on the page.
3. Uninstall any previous version of wireless toolkit if you have one.
4. For Windows run j2me_wireless_toolkit-2_2-bin-win.exe
   
   For Linux run the self-extracting installer, j2me_wireless_toolkit-2_2-bin-linuxi386.bin. (Note: the file names might vary according to the version you are downloading)
5. Generally the java JDK path gets automatically detected but recheck that the path is right. It might point to a wrong JDK version, a JRE instead of a JDK, or no path at all. In case there is a problem browse and point to the latest JDK version installed in your computer.
6. Follow other instruction and complete the installation. I advise to install it in the default directory of “C:\WTK22” (Note WTK22 is version specific). We will use this path is future. However you can choose any path of your choice.

We will talk about how to use Wireless Toolkit in the main tutorial.
Please not that for using location API, we will need additional SDK. We will be using Nokia Prototype SDK 4.0. It is freely available. For download and installation detail, refer Appendix C.
