Installing Nokia Prototype SDK

Appendix C: Installing Nokia Prototype SDK

If you are to develop applications for a particular platform, you need the SDKs for that platform. We will be using the prototype SDK of Nokia. Please follow the directions for downloading and installing. If you need another SDK for a different platform, make sure it supports the location API (javax.microedition.location).

  1. Go to http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/0,6566,034-761,00.html to download Nokia Prototype SDK for Javaâ„¢ Platform, Micro Edition
  2. Once you click on the ‘download’ button, you will be asked to log in. If you already have a login, do so or else sign up the registration form, the link of which will be available on the log in page. It is free and won’t take much time. You need a valid email address to sign up.
  3. Run the installation file. When asked for installation directory choose “\wtklib\devices\”. In my case it is “C:\WTK22\wtklib\devices\Nokia_Prototype_SDK_4_0”. This is important to use the Nokia SDK from the Wireless toolkit.
  4. Complete installation following on screen instructions.

Registration for SDK

This step won’t be necessary right away but once you use the SDK for over 15 days, you need to register it. Don’t worry; it’s free.

When you are asked to register (you will be asked only after 15 days) just log in to the page http://forum.nokia.com/GetSerialNumber (or as mentioned on the registration notice) and get the serial key using your product number. The product number will be mentioned when you are prompted for registration.
